I was very honoured to be asked to record a track for the album, a cover of Blondie's 'Picture This'. It's a beautiful version of the track, composed by string and synth guru Marvin Ayres and produced by the wonderful Martyn Ware. Here's the album cover. Feast. Airport Hub11/09/2012 For the last 6 or 7 years I have been taking photographs of airports when I travel. There were a lot of different airports at the height of The Long Blondes' success and a lot of dead time waiting around in them. I loved this time though. I tend to feel more at home in an airport than anywhere else. I enjoy nothing more than a six hour layover at an international hub like Munich or Schipol or Singapore Changi, waiting to take a long haul to Sydney or Tokyo or Hong Kong. I've been looking for an outlet for these photographs for a couple of years now. I'm no great photographer so they don't warrant an exhibition in their own right. I thought of making large scale hyper-real oil paintings but I never get around to it which makes me think it's the wrong thing to do. So instead I made this blog site and started uploading some of the shots. More interestingly though I realised that I can re-blog other people's airport photos in real time. So now Airport Hub exists! An interactive blog site for people like me who see something more than frustrating dead time when waiting for their flights. Anyone can upload a photo or text piece and I will continue to reblog others and upload my own from time to time. Hopefully it'll become a little creative hub in it's own right. Cool huh? Here's the link: http://airporthub.tumblr.com/ There's also a twitter feed! https://twitter.com/Airporthub Graft 201211/05/2012 The lovely people at Quarantine Manchester have asked me to take part in their Graft project for 2012. It brings together artists from various disciplines and backgrounds to meet on a monthly basis and talk. The project is about conversation, mutual inspiration and an exchange of ideas. http://www.qtine.com/work/graft/ OUTSKIRTS11/02/2012 On Tuesday 25th September 2012 and Tuesday 30th October 2012 I walked a circle around my home town of Bury St Edmunds. I documented the walk with photographs which will form the basis of an exhibition of multi disciplinary works at The Edmund Gallery, Bury St Edmunds in February 2013. I have added a blog page to the site which is specifically for the Outskirts project. I'll be updating it with images of work in progress as I go along. It's not a music related project, yet, but may well end up being as I'm finding it a rich source of inspiration. Walking a circle made me think of records anyway, revolutions per minute, revolutions per hour, revolutions per day, so some music may result from this to accompany the exhibition. I don't know yet, so it's exciting.
